Mr. Columbus 'Jake' Parham, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016.'Jake' was born the second of seven children to Robert S. Parham and Kattie R. (Valentine) Parham. The family relocated to Chicago, Illinois where he attended Chicago Public School.On March 18, 1966, Jake joined in holy matrimony his soul mate Doris (Bush) and to this union two children were born, Tonya and Anthony Parham.As a young man Jake was taught to be a butcher and became employed at the neighborhood grocery store, Manny's Grocery. Later he went on to gain employment at Agar Parking house. During that time a special group of close friends formed a club named The El Captains. These friends would ride around Morgan Park in their 1957 Chevrolet socializing and having fun. In 1961, Jake found better employment at International Harvester Steele Mill and he relocated with his family to Indianapolis, Indiana. He retired after forty years of service and enjoyed his golden years. After a long illness, God called his name and Jake answered. He leaves behind to carry on his life legacy a very devoted, loving wife, Doris, two daughters; Catherine Holland, Tonya Parham, two sons; Delmar Bush and Anthony Parham (Sonia), two brothers; Mack Parham (Mary), and Nathan Parham. Four sisters; Imogene Flanagan Mary Ruth Morgan, Martha Colone, Many Vinson (Alvin) and four sisters-in-laws, and four brother-in-laws. One loving grandson, Anthony Miguel C. Parham-Cruz, two granddaughters; Leilene and Arely and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many great friends.Family and Friends Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 28th from 11am until 12 noon at Lavenia and Summers Home for Funerals, 5811 E. 38th Street. Funeral service will follow at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Sutherland Park Cemetery.
