Christina Evagene Jones

Obituary, Christina E Jones, January 1, 1926 – January 31, 2024

Christina E. Jones was born on January 1, 1926, in Dayton, Tennessee to Andrew and Laura Brown. She was the second eldest of eight children.  The very bright Sister, as she was belovedly called, earned an education degree from Knoxville College and brought those skills back to Dayton, teaching the community which included her brothers, sisters, and cousins.  Christina married Robert Jones in 1946, and from this union, they had three daughters: Linda A. Woodard, Bobbie J. Harley, and Rebecca S. Jones.  The family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where Mrs. Jones earned her master’s degree from Butler University and spent the next 42 years as an elementary school teacher.   Many people in Dayton and Indianapolis owe their penmanship and ability to multiply numbers to Mrs. Jones.  In her early years, she confessed Christ as her savior at Mount Moriah AME Zion Church in Dayton, Tennessee. In her latter days, she was a member of a few churches, most recently the Fervent Pray Church until she could no longer attend.  When not teaching, Christina was a long-time saleswoman with Avon achieving many awards.  Christina was a generous light and unconditional love personified.  She acted as “mother” to not only her children, but to her eight grandchildren, and their children.  Her house was always home, sacrificing her last so that others could thrive, be present and to the rescue no matter the time or day-- our savior.

Christina departed this life on January 31, 2024.  Christina was proceeded in death by her parents, Andrew and Laura Brown; her husband, Robert Jones; her daughter, Rebecca S Jones, and her grandson, Jamille A. Harley; and her siblings, George T. Brown, James E. Brown, Archie Brown, Barbara Bettis, and Andrewena Bond.   Christina leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters; Linda A. Woodard, and Bobbie J. Harley of Indianapolis, Indiana; her grandchildren, Dr. Aisha Redmond, Tyrone Harley, Christopher Jones, Renee Pittman, Robert Howard, Morris Howard, and William Jones; great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren; her sisters, Annette Smith of Jackson, Mississippi, and Mary Thomas of Indianapolis, Indiana   She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Christina was the oldest of five generations of the Jones family, an irreplaceable matriarch,
