Charlotte Jean Haywood

Charlotte Jean Haywood was born March 9, 1952 to Patricia Haywood and Richard Winston aka “Dickey”, in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She attended Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Shortridge High School in 1969.

She professed a love for Christ at an early age and was baptized at Greater St. James Baptist Church. Her unwavering faith led her to become a member of Eastern Star Church, where she worshipped the Lord for many years.

Charlotte Jean, as she was affectionally called by her family, relocated to California in the 70’s at an early age, while there she worked for Xerox and IBM for several years before moving back to Indianapolis to be with family. In the early 90’s she worked for Central Hardware and AAA before requesting early retirement in the early 2000’s.

Charlotte was a beautiful woman with a passion for fashion and worked as a model for LS Ayers as a teenager and young adult. The social butterfly she was, Charlotte loved to laugh and have a good time.  Like her favorite color yellow, Charlotte was a ray of sunshine with a smile that would brighten your day.  A very personable woman, who never met a stranger in her life.

Charlotte enjoyed spending time with family and longtime friends. She had a love for the theater and the arts, she enjoyed listening to music, attending festivals, concerts, movies and most importantly she loved playing cards, especially solitaire.  She was an avid reader and developed a love for books at a young age, she also enjoyed watching criminal tv shows and classic Disney movies. She was an amazing daughter, sister, aunt and friend to all those around her and was loved dearly.

In Charlotte’s final stages of life she fought a good fight with her illness and was blessed and fortunate to be at home with her adoring mother who cared for her very lovingly until she was called home to be with the Lord.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her father, Dickey and uncles, Lee Walter Haywood and Arnold Haywood.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her doting mother, Patricia: sisters, Rosalind Guthrie and Darlene Smith-Lomax; brother, Mitchell “Mickey” Smith (Evette Gee); a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, family and friends. Charlotte’ s love and memories will forever live on in each heart she touched.
