Catherine Marie Easter Elizabeth Haywood Harris, affectionately known as “Cat” departed this life at the age of 94 years on December 12, 2024 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family.

Catherine was born on June 17, 1930, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Cynthia Mae (Soules) Haywood and Thaxter Haywood.

She received her formal education through the Indianapolis Public School System and attended Crispus Attucks High School. Immediately following her education, Catherine entered the workforce. On March 14, 1959, at the age of 29, Catherine married the love of her life, Walter Harris and to this union the couple was blessed with two children, Rodrick Leneal “Ricky” and Latonya Marshil. Walter and Catherine remained a loving couple until he departed this life on August 20, 1985.

Catherine was a longtime member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Indianapolis, IN under the pastorate of Reverend F. Benjamin Davis.

Catherine worked for Lau Industries in Tangential department for 33 years before retiring. To keep herself busy after retirement she worked for Lawrence Township Transportation as an aid for 15 years, retiring thereafter to enjoy her family.

Catherine was easy going and enjoyed having a fun time.

She was blessed with a wonderful talent of sewing and could make anything look beautiful!

Catherine was highly regarded by others as someone that was always there to help in the time of need. She loved having a house full of people, and was passionate about her family especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren (them babies as she lovingly called them).
