Brenda J. 'Joycie Britt' Maxie

Brenda Joyce Britt-Maxie 'Joycie' was born July 9, 1948 to the late Roy Lee Britt Sr. and Lettie Mae Britt in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Brenda professed an early relationship with the Lord and was baptized under the late Rev. Charles Poole at New Garfield Missionary Baptist Church, where she participated in the Junior Choir then onto the Young Adult Choir, she was also in the Nurses' Guild and the Usher Board.
After many illnesses her attendance waived but New Garfield has always been her church home. Brenda enjoyed many conversations with Rev. Terry Reynolds and his wife, Catherine.
Brenda attended Indianapolis Public School #64 and Emmerich Manual High School. She was also an Alumni at Ivy Tech College.
Brenda liked to bowl and was involved with several bowling leagues throughout the years.
She enjoyed sewing, traveling and spending time with her family, friends and co-workers.
Brenda worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield for 15 years. She was later employed at RGIS where she retired after 28 years of service.
Brenda traveled a lot on the back of a Harley Davidson which were some of her best vacations. She was at one time the secretary of the Indianapolis Black Motorcycle Association. She traveled to Tunica, Mississippi two times per year for the last 26 yrs.
Brenda truly loved her 'one & only' daughter; as well as her grandson, granddaughter and great-grandson who all meant the world to her and always put a smile on her face.
During her journey with cancer, Brenda was called upon to do special things by her doctors who said it was because of her positive attitude. When told of her cancer, Brenda said 'I'm not worried or concerned because my faith is so high and I know who's going to take care of me, so I'm not going home and lie down.' and she did not.
Brenda also stated on several occasions that 'God is good all the time and He's been really good to me.' Dr. Robert Goulet, her surgeon, called on her to throw the first pitch at the Community Cancer night at the Indians Baseball game. Yes, Brenda did throw the ball over the plate! She also did an interview with Dr. Goulet at the Fever Basketball game. From there she did interviews with Susan G. Komen, Channel 13, spoke at the 'Music Fusion: Raising Awareness' breast cancer awareness event held at Epic Lounge and last but definitely not least, two speaking engagements at the Conrad Hotel for Gennesart free clinic, where she met Lisa Hayes. They formed a close relationship that started in January 2012 and flourished until the very end. Her Oncology Dr. Anuj Agarwale always encouraged her and made her feel good and un-afraid. Brenda had many, many special friends and she loved them all.
Brenda Joyce Britt-Maxie 'Joycie' departed this life on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the age of 69 years. Her parents, Roy Lee Britt Sr. and Lettie Mae Britt; grandparents, McKenzie and Bessie Britt; grandmother, Mable Clark Crowdus; brothers: Samuel Britt, Ronald Southers and Roy Lee Britt Jr. all preceded her in death and she truly loved and missed each of them.
Brenda leaves to cherish her memory to her daughter, Aleasha; grandson, Marcus; granddaughter, Jalesa; great-grandson, JaiVon; sisters: Rita J. Jones, Shirley A. Britt and Kimberly D. Britt; special Doctors: Dr. Robert Goulet, Dr. Anuj Agarwale and Dr. J. Graybill; navigator, Natalie Newman; everyone at Community East Hospital as well as a host of loving family and friends.
