Boyd Gerald Stevens Jr. was born on February 28, 1953, the son of Dorothy M. Stevens and Boyd Stevens Sr., in Indianapolis, Indiana.Boyd, also lovingly known as “Butch” or the “Butcherman,” was the eldest of 8 children. He attended Indianapolis Public School #36 from K-8th grade. Then a student at Crispus Attucks High School where he graduated in 1971. Butch came to the knowledge of God through attendance at College Avenue Baptist Church. He was a military veteran of the US Marine Corps and served from 1974-1976 where he received an honorable discharge.“Butch,” worked at Chrysler, Fort Harrison Finance Center and after 30 plus years, retired from the US Postal Service in 2015.“Butch,” loved to travel. He’s been everywhere from Japan, Aruba, Dominican Republic, Las Vegas and most recently Los Angeles with his children, just to name a few. He had an eclectic palette for music from gospel, rock, alternative, rhythm and blues, hip hop and his favorite smooth jazz. He attended many jazz festivals and frequented the Jazz Kitchen jam sessions while dressed up in his “sharpest threads,” a trendsetter. He was a “cool cat” like that! He was a talented free hand artist, photographer, basketball player and huge NBA fan! He was an even greater fan of his dog “Pegasus” or “Peg” for short. He would have “Peg” dressed in the latest jersey’s and even sneakers. Yes, even his pet was apart of his family.Butch was a huge family man! He always had his camera in hand ready to capture all the special, candid and unfiltered moments. He loved his family no matter what and always stepped in to help without wanting anything in return. He was a very self-less man. A man to be honored, loved and respected. Butch was a loving father, brother, uncle, cousin and much more. He valued unity, peace and laughter amongst his community of support. He had a unique and gentle way to bring people together. He impacted many lives with his presence and will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.Butch received his wings on Friday, November 29, 2024 at the age of 71 in the comfort of his home; surrounded by love. He leaves to carry his legacy, twin daughters Kendra Stevens (Kemama), Korean Stevens (Korn) and son Austin Stevens aka “B” or “little b”. He leaves to cherish his memory, sisters and brother, Debbie, Dianne (Lynnie), Wanda, Susan (Kay), William (Chubby), Angela (Lokie), Shantel (Lace) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
