Ms. Beverly L. Long, age 76, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016.
Beverly was born in Hendersonville, Kentucky to Buford and Wilma Nelson. She graduated from John Hope #26 grade school and thereafter attended and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. She confessed a hope in Christ and united with St. John's MBC at a very early age. She was involved in numerous activities including the Matrons, the Ushers, the Evangelistic Team, the Sunday School the Wednesday Bible Study and the Missionaries. She eventually joined Ebenezer Baptist Church and continued her Religious Education there under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Thomas L. Brown. She was a strong believer in Christ and she read and studied her Bible faithfully. She was a faithful and active member until her illness caused her to be restricted to her home. Beverly was family oriented and enjoyed her grandsons as well as participating in family outings.
She had a passion for reading and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed watching classical movies. She had a knack for shopping and instilled the 'tricks of the trade' to her daughters. Beverly was also a passionate dog lover as well as a unique lover of people..
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her daughters, Shelley Cannon (Jerod) and Carla Long; great-grandchildren, Christopher Wright, RubyJo Nelson, some cousins, nieces and a very special and unique group of close knit friends for over 65 years, Betty Robinson Person, Shirley Robinson Dobbins, Patsy McGuire Newman, Lenny Sanders Williams, Lillian Frazier, Aretha Chatman; a sister-in-love, Blanche Hill along with her beloved St. John and Ebenezer church families.
Family and Friends Visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 10am until 12 Noon at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1901 N. Harding St. Funeral service will follow at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
