BETTY LOUISE RENDER ROBERTSON departed this life on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
Betty was born to Peter Nathanial Render and Mamie L. Riley Render on August 30, 1933 in Danville, Illinois. She was the youngest of five children.
Betty received her education at Danville public schools. After graduating High School, she moved to Indianapolis and began work at L.S. Ayres in their Tea Room. She later met and married her husband, James O. Robertson and to this union three children were born.
Betty later found employment with the Indianapolis Public School System as a Reading Tutor. She took great pride in her job and truly enjoyed working with children. Betty retired from IPS in 1993. After retiring she spent time with her grandchildren, participated in church activities, visited the sick and shut-in as well as those confined to nursing facilities.
Betty was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church for over 60 years where she served faithfully until the unfortunate closure of the church in 2022. Due to her health Betty was unable to establish membership elsewhere. At St. Paul she served in many capacities; Betty could always be found supervising in the kitchen during events such as breakfast for various Sunday School Programs, weekly “Kids Night Out” programs or serving bereaved families during their repast. She also served as an Usher, Stewardess, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Steward Board, Trustee Board and Finance Committee. She was a member and secretary of the Mary F. Handy Missionary Society and held the distinguish titles of Torch Lighter and Life Member. Betty loved the Lord, she loved God’s people, she was that good and faithful servant.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory her husband, James O. Robertson; daughters, Jacquelin Maxwell (Ronald) and Saundra Cawthon; grandchildren: Kendall Maxwell (Felicity Wilson), Corey Cawthon (Sharonda) and Ashley Cawthon; great-grandchildren, Kylah Rogers, Caleb Cawthon, Kirsten Cawthon and Kaitlyn Cawthon; great-great grandchild, Veda Hodge; a host of loving family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Nathaniel Render and Mamie Render; sister, Mary K. Dudley; brothers: Nathanial Render, William W. Render and Robert Render; daughter, Cheryl Robertson; son-in-law, Hugh E. Cawthon, Jr.; sister-in-law, Julia Render; brother-in-law, James Dudley.
Betty Louise Render Robertson will be truly missed but never forgotten.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. ~ II Timothy 4:7-8
