OBITUARY
ELIZABETH MAGNOLIA GLENN DORSEY, also affectionately known as Betty, Aunt Betty or Aunt B was born May 2, 1923 to the late Plush Elder Glenn and Anna Lillian Spence Bass.
Betty was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, attended Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1941.
Betty began her career as a librarian clerk in 1955, retiring in 1984 from the Cen-tral Library. This career gave her the opportunity to serve in many neighborhood libraries and on the Bookmobile. Many of her 'kids' remember her to this day and she fondly remembered them.
Betty was the eldest of three sisters, Margaret Glenn Russell and Doris Glenn Roberts who preceded her in death. She was baptized as a baby at Phillips Tem-ple C.M.E. Church where she maintained her membership until 1956 when she transferred her membership to Trinity C.M.E Church under the leadership of Bishop James L. Cummings. Betty remained a faithful member until her death. She loved her church and the church family. In past years, she was a choir member, an usher, served on the Board of Christian Education, was the Vacation Bible School craft instructor and a founding member of the Amity Club. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society, the Leora B. Myers Missionary Circle and the Golden Years.
Her many talents of crafting, decorating and crocheting were always needed and welcomed. She was often the go-to person. If there was a baby born at Trinity in the last thirty years, it's pretty safe to say she probably crocheted their first baby blanket. She loved to pick apples and arranged yearly family trips to the apple orchard. To enhance the beauty of the sanctuary, she had taken over the task of ordering Easter Lilies and Christmas Poinsettias each year that members memorialized for their loved ones.
In 1962, Betty married the love of her life, John L. Dorsey, Jr. at Trinity C.M.E. Church where he was also a member. Although she did not have any biological children with John, she was blessed to have a daughter, Jackie Dorsey Lawson coming into the marriage. She had many nieces and nephews that she called her 'Bosses.' She never failed to let you know she had many of them.
Betty was the Matriarch of the family and will be missed so very much. She was the last of her generation. Her best times were when she was at family gatherings and would always say 'my family is so crazy.' She raised and loved all the same. Each time they left her presence and told her they loved her she would say 'a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.' So much more to say, not enough time...
Betty was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her step-daughter Jackie Dorsey Lawson (Charles) who she affectionately called 'My Jackie', nephew Charles G. Russell, Jr. (Marcia), nieces Joyce Roberts Anderson, Kathy Roberts, Debra Roberts Jones, Terri Russell Burnett, and Jackie Russell Walker. 9 great nephews, 9 great nieces, 34 great great nephews and nieces, 12 great great great nephews and nieces, and many more family and friends.
