Anthony T. Strong

Anthony T. Strong was born March 18, 1968 in Gary, Indiana to Ruth and Allen Strong. Anthony accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of New Revelation Church in Gary, Indiana.

He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, class of 1987.  During high school, Anthony was a member of the orchestra, played the violin and was active in sports. He graduated from Indiana University Bloomington where he met the love of his life, Deanna Evans.  On November 18, 1988, he accomplished his dream of becoming a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated Alpha Chapter #3 of 9 ELITE. He was an active member and mentor who contributed his skills, time and resources to the betterment of the African American community in Bloomington and surrounding areas.

Anthony married his college sweetheart, Deanna, on September 6, 1997. On that day he vowed that wherever she went he would go, and he stayed true to his word. Anthony and Deanna loved to travel and had many fun adventures around the world. To that union one child, Kendall Anthony, was born on July 1, 2003 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Kendall was Anthony’s pride and joy and they spent many hours laughing and joking with one another while watching Judge Judy and reality television. He was very proud when his son was accepted to the University of Indianapolis where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration and just completed his freshman year. Upon completion, Kendall intends to pursue his Master of Business Administration and Juris Doctorate. Anthony was devoted to his family and loved the Lord. He was member at Eastern Star Church under the guidance of Senior Pastor, Jeffrey A. Johnson Sr.

He had a love for exotic and luxury cars. He was an avid collector and took great care of his vehicles. As a foodie, Anthony was always trying new things and loved to enjoy his meals. He welcomed new challenges and began teaching himself to play the guitar. Anthony loved everything about dogs from breeding to training he did it all. He was affectionately known as the Dog Whisperer and never met a dog he could not handle. Anthony believed in giving back to the community and spent countless hours rehabbing houses in his hometown of Gary, Indiana.

Anthony was a lifelong learner and educator. Having served as an educator at Indiana Math and Science Academy West for over 10 years, he was highly revered and loved by his students and fellow faculty members. Anthony mentored many students, actively supported after school programs and coached scholars toward their future success. He was a team player who tirelessly supported his fellow staff in their activities and always went above and beyond to help.

Anthony T. Strong went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Strong; mother, Ruth (Peterson) Strong; paternal grandparents, Charlie and Marie Matinee; maternal grandparents, Silas James and Annie Mae Peterson; and brother, Aaron Strong.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Deanna Evans Strong; son, Kendall Anthony Strong; brothers, Allen “Boni” Strong of Indianapolis, IN and Antwon Strong (Marie) of Gary, IN; aunts: Doris Holloway (John) of Gary, IN, Carolyn Harris of Indianapolis, IN, Denice Peterson of Fairburn, GA; Nadiyah Muhammad of Crown Point, IN and Reanell Bradley (Ronnie) of Gary, IN; uncles: Harry Peterson of Hurtsboro, AL,  Raymond Strong of Gary, IN and Steve Strong of Gary, IN; special sister, Annette Harmon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and loving friends.
