Mrs. Annetta Rebecca Walton Swanigan was born November 5, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the third daughter of Henry H. and Nettie Rebecca Webster Walton.Affectionately known as 'Beck' to family and friends, she attended Indianapolis Public School #19 and Crispus Attucks High School. An accomplished vocalist, Beck and some family members sang at various events throughout the city.At a young age, Beck accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at Olivet Missionary Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and participated in several organizations in the church. She has been a member of Oasis of Hope Baptist Church for the past ten years and was a member of the choir until her health started to fail.Beck was united in Holy Matrimony to Henry Swanigan and together they enjoyed twenty-three years of marital bliss. As her family of nine children grew to include five stepchildren and eventually grandchildren, she became affectionately known as 'Grandma Butler' (because she lived on Butler Street), 'Grandma Becka' and 'Mrs. Swan' to her offspring and their friends. Beck proudly spoiled her offspring and each one received homemade cheesecake for birthdays and 'secret family recipe' jumbo cookies for Christmas.She retired from Wishard Memorial Hospital where she worked as a phlebotomist and Central Service Supply Technician for twenty years. She also worked at Community Hospital North, American Bearing and RCA.Mrs. Annetta Rebecca Walton Swanigan departed this life on August 15, 2008 at the age of seventy-five years. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, three sisters, son, Frederick Michael Walton and stepdaughter, Tracey Swanigan.She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Henry; daughters, Patricia Baker (Willie Sr.), Rita Walton, Charlene 'Twigi' Walton, MD, and Carmela Bingham Gaddie; sons, Brian 'Tony' Bingham (Rochelle), Alex 'Jerry' Bingham (Lisa), Keith Torrence (Francine) and Kim Leon Torrence; stepdaughters, Sherry Hamilton (William), Donna Swanigan and Rita Williams (Raymond); stepson, Quenton Swanigan (Lisa); sister, Sue Carolyn Parson. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many cherished friends.
