“But they who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings
like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
Anita Louise (Barber) Brinkley went home to Jesus on October 26, 2019, at sunrise, surrounded
by her loving family. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her
struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Anita Louise (Barber) Brinkley was born on August 15, 1950 to the union of Katherine Barber
and the late Robert Barber in Indianapolis, IN. Anita attended Indianapolis Public School as well
as Business College. She was co-owner of Katherine’s Hats and Wigs. After closing Katherine’s
Hats and Wigs, she worked for H.H. Gregg and more recently was employed with Republic
Service.
She was a very resilient woman with a benevolent heart. Anita was an avid painter and loved to
work in her yard. She treasured going to concerts with her girls. She had a strong admiration for
weekend movie outings. Anita is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that
she is at peace with her creator.
At an early age, Anita confessed Christ as her Savior. She was a former member of St. John
Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the Deaconess Board for several years.
Those remaining to mourn and cherish Anita’s memory are her mother, Katherine L. Barber; her
son, Burt Riley III (La’Channa); Sister, Barbara (Tony) Persutti; Sister-in-law, Marion Harris. Her
heritage and spirit will continue to flourish through her generation of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Anita will also be remembered by a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews,
extended family and her beloved dog Sasha. Anita was preceded in death by her father, Robert
L. Barber. Sister Pauletta Lindsey and Grandmother Callie McFarland.
