Luther Lumpkins was born the fourth of ten children to Isaac and Francis (Shawbay) Lumpkins on July 29, 1926 in Wynne, Arkansas. He attended a public school in Wynne, AR until he was hired in his early years by the United States of America RailRoad.
In July 1959 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Doris Turner and they were blessed with a blended family of twelve children. They were married for 43 years until her passing in 2003.
Luther worked for the RailRoad for over 20 years until he moved his family to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1969. He was employed by Ford Motor Company as a Line Assembly Worker from 1969 until he retired in 1989.
He professed his hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized. He and family joined Breeding Tabernacle Christian Methodist Church shortly after his move to Indianapolis, Indiana, and he was a faithful servant as a Steward, Financial Assistant in the financial department, Street Evangelist and Food Pantry Assistant for many years.
Luther was the patriarch of the family who he loved very much. He loved taking long walks which helped keep him physically fit and healthy. He loved family gatherings and seeing all his family members and friends celebrate and have a good time.
Luther Lumpkins departed this life on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the age of 93. His parents, Isaac and Francis Lumpkins; wife, Doris Lumpkins; four brothers: Roosevelt, Omega, Isaac and Felix; two sisters, Viola and Hester; and children: Calvin Williams, Jerry Davis and Alice Davis all preceded him in death.
His memory will be cherished by his children: Viola Wright (Emanuel), Cynthia Burton, Brenda Lumpkins, Diann Harris (Aaron), Harrison Lumpkins, Louise Lumpkins, Johnnie Royston and Isabella Scalf; siblings: Andrew Lumpkins (Felisha), Willie Lumpkins (Lodena) and Louise Scott; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loving relatives and friends.
